The Background

Precious-metals trading between collectors had been running on forum threads — Reddit's r/Pmsforsale among them — where a buyer had no way to check a seller's history and no protection once the money moved. Fees on the established platforms ate the premium that made stacking worth doing in the first place.

The brief was a marketplace built for that community rather than adapted to it: low fees, direct dealing between individuals, collectors and dealers, and the trust machinery — verification, ratings, escrow — supplied by the platform instead of improvised in comment threads.

02Chapter

The Challenge

Metals are priced against a moving spot market, so a listing's value changes by the hour. The platform had to show every item's premium or discount against live gold, silver, platinum and palladium prices, and keep that accurate across the whole catalogue.

It also had to carry two products at once: an e-commerce marketplace with checkout, shipping labels, tracking and payouts, and a social network — feed, live shows, messaging — that keeps collectors coming back between purchases.
